Do you think it might be nice to throw a party for our new arrivals? I know some of the people on this filter just arrived as well, but hopefully you don't mind that it isn't a surprise. I just thought it would be nice to make everyone feel more welcome here.

Hey everyone! My name is Haruka Sawamura, and I'm originally from Tokyo on Earth. I'm an Assistant here, and I just wanted to welcome all the new arrivals here and offer any help or guidance you might need while you're adjusting to your new home away from home.

I'm pretty good about my communicator, but feel free to catch me around the halls or the common rooms; I'd love to get to meet you!

Did you want to maybe have lunch together sometime? I know we just got paired but I want to get to know you and see if I can help.

[ True to her word, Haruka can be found just about anywhere on board and wherever she happens to be, she's probably willing to chat with you. ]

[ She'd had a feeling about Oswald's most recent try and when she feels him slumping against her, she frowns and turns to wrap her arms around him in a tight hug. No words: there's nothing to say about it she hasn't said. And she just wants him to know she cares. ]

[He just lets her squish his big fuzzy head for a minute, before he lifts his arms to wrap around her waist as well, gripping her jacket as he sighs quietly.]

I ain't good at this 'fake it 'til ya make it' baloney.

[ She just nods. She understands. The man who raised her hadn't had much of a filter either, and he'd never have survived in a place like this.]

You lasted longer this time. [ Just a little bit of a bright side. Or maybe just a reminder. It's not nothing!] I know you can make it. I'm sorry it wasn't this time, though.

[ That comes with another squeeze.]

Yeah...

[It's a little bit, but it's not much. His ears flop suddenly like they've been deflated, limp against his own back as he hugs her a bit tighter.]

I don't think I'm gonna be a lotta fun to be around this week, Ruky. [His voice is muffled against her stomach, making it all the quieter.] Gotta get all the grit outta my ink 'fore I try again.

[ She gives him another squeeze as she nods.]

That's okay.

[ Then she gestures over to a box of chocolates sitting beside her.]

I got these candies but the person I got them for didn't want them. Want to share a few with me?

[ It's also an excuse to keep holding him. There's not much else she can do to help his pain.]

[Rather than remove himself from the hug, one of his ears perks up: and like someone wielding a sock puppet, it baps blindly around the table a few times before it finds the chocolate box, perks up like a dog that's found a bone, and very politely lifts the lid off to take one of the chocolates and flip it into the air, so it can open wide - complete with teeth, and snatch it out of midair to chew on with a distinct smile.

Toons, man.]

Well, it is nice chocolate. Be a shame to let it go to waste.

[ She's used to it, which is why she just giggles and gives him a squeeze in the hug.]

We can sit together [ and cuddle ] and eat some chocolate and make sure it doesn't go to waste. And I can tell you about my new sister and older brother.

Sounds like a plan!

[His other ear reinflates so both are perked up again - his short term moods have always been fleeting - and he pulls another chair over, tucking it right against Haruka's before he hops into it and snuggles against her side.]

So, your pops is making yer family even bigger, huh? That sounds like him, alright.

[ Oswald always makes her smile, and now's no different than usual. She'll offer the box up to him with one hand. ]

Apparently, there are other ships. And he's on one of them. He took a new brother and he took in a couple of kids. One of them's even here.

[He takes a chocolate with his hand this time, ears flopping as naturally as ever.]

Other boats, huh? Wonder what happened t'get them booted over here?

No one's said. But it sounds like it was a... confusing process.

[ Her eyes widen the way they do when she's talking about something that's worse than she'll say out loud. ]

[He worries about Haruka, he truly does. Not being able to speak your mind was bad enough, but a girl with a heart as big as hers not being allowed to express that something upset her? That was downright criminal.]

I guess we gotta give 'em a hand, right? They must be all sorts a' upset, bein' turned upside down like that.

[ She gives an affirmative 'mmmhmm!' and a nod. ]

I've been trying to help any of the ones who post on the network. The one the chocolates were for thought he'd be an Assistant but he came in as a Patient. Another one was looking for her friends and family.

[ She looks both ways before leaning in and reaching over to pull one of his ears up to her lips.]

Can you keep a secret?

[Well that makes both ears prick up sharply with his curiosity, and he looks up with huge eyes.]

For you, Ruky? My lips are sealed.

[And to prove it, he grabs one corner of his mouth and literally zips it shut, before he leans on the table to face his friend better.]

[ She giggles before leaning over to kiss the top of his head. Then she's back to his ear.]

Luigi and I are planning a party to try and cheer people up. We're getting snacks and candy and games and balloons.

[ She turns to look at his face.]

Do you think you'll be up for it in the next few days or should I try to hold it off a little?
