WHAT: a welcome party for the new arrivals, with pizza and milkshakes and snacks and candy, dancing games and video games and a big banner that says 'WELCOME!' and music and balloons for everyone!

The main common room has been transformed into party central!!!

There's streamers and balloons and tons of fun and games. Haruka, Luigi, and Duck have made sure that there's a little something for everyone.

There's a food table with all kinds of snacks and candy as well as pizza with every combination of toppings you could ask for.

There's dance games out with their mats on the floor for fun and friendly competitions, and a sign that says there's a scavenger hunt for anyone interested. There's also a bunch of machines, almost like a margarita bar (but of course not!) that offer all kinds of milkshakes and slushies for anyone who'd want one. Fun, happy, upbeat pop music with bubblegum lyrics is playing just loud enough to be fun but not to give anyone a headache.

Haruka had made sure that the kitchen staff knew they wouldn't need to make dinner tonight, and they were using all paper cups and plates so no clean up! Everyone could have fun tonight!

"We just wanted to welcome you all to the Clipper! So enjoy the snacks, and have fun!"

"Go faster if I'm tippin', got it." Important things first and confirmed with a confident nod as he thumbs over the buttons again.

"Young men should listen to their.. Mothers.. How many do you have?" And what was with the chairs? There was a story behind that. Being an only child, Raylan had no idea what it's like beyond what he'd been told in the past.

“When the track gets all shiny it makes you go faster so some people try to slow down because a corner can be coming up but it’s better to keep speed and focus on reflexes.” He has a lot of hot tips.

“Three though our middle mom isn’t home often because of work. Dad said if they have any other kids she’d offer more reinforcements. I’d like another little sibling. Istra says she wouldn’t but she doesn’t know what it’s like to have younger siblings, just older, so it’s not full data.”

Raylan would take those hot tips, and nodded at it all.

"Three. Wow." Okay there was a LOT to question there, but Raylan wasn't going to be an ignorant asshole. "Sounds like a big family. How many older, aside from you, obviously."

Miko seemed like a very serious little boy, even if he was jazzed up over video games.

"Miri's our older sister, she's almost sixteen." So, you know, ancient. "Avradez and Tei are also older, and they're around a lot, so they sometimes count even though they're cousins."

Cousins who are even older or who don't live as close don't count in his estimate of considering what it's like to have older siblings.

"I was only ever an only child. I imagine it's nice to have siblings to play with you when you want. You must miss 'em, bein' here, huh?"

He really did hate how many kids were here. This wasn't a place for them, it wasn't right.

"They can be annoying, sometimes, but it would be weird if they weren't there."

He can't imagine being an only child. He considers the question, seriously.

"I miss Istra the most." As he understands it, you're not supposed to have a favorite child but you can definitely have a favorite sibling. "The others too, but it's different." He's also not particularly prone to homesickness or to noticing how long it's been unless he makes an effort to think about it.

Raylan had to smile gently at that. It was sweet, but Raylan kept his focus on the screen, the controller in his hand and the track he was barely staying on, over shooting turns as he figures it out.

"You help look after the other little ones here?"

[packhound]

"Yeah! With some of them, it's a really good thing that I did a first aid course."

Which he had done specifically for babysitting.

"Oh, look, first puzzle!" He nods at where a yellow star is floating ahead of them on the track, "I set it so it shows when one is coming up. Past the star there's going to be three different colors of track and you have to go on the matching one, okay?"

"Impressive," he starts, but Miko's excited point drew his attention back to what was coming up.

"Got it. Got iiiit!" The last was let out as he leeeans to the far side, as though that would help him turn. "HA!" he laughs at the screen, victoriously as he got his color right.
